Brief Qualifications for the Position of Iron County Sheriff


I have over 40 years of public service, which includes Law Enforcement, Fire Protection and Emergency Services.  During this time I have earned three degrees: Criminal Justice, Fire Science and Aviation Mechanics.  Civilian schools and courses attended are the Missouri Law Enforcement Academy, St. Louis Police Academy, Missouri Criminal Investigations Course for the Major Case Squad, Police Traffic Management at the National Traffic Management Institute at Central Missouri State University, and National Police Academy for Arson and Narcotics Investigation, to name a few, along with several additional courses.

   

Some of my government training and courses include Military Police School, Fire Protection Specialist School, Emergency Response to Terrorism, The National Cryptology School for Operations Security Fundamentals, US Air Force Protection of the President, US Air Force Counter Intelligence Course, US Air Force Non-Commissioned Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Academies, and the Chief Executive Officers Course, along with numerous other related courses.  Additionally I have earned a Federal Aviation Administration Rotorcraft License with an Instrument Rating and over 2,000 flight hours.

   

A few of the my current Missouri certifications include the Missouri Peace Officers Class A License, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Fire Officer II and Firearms Instructor.  Department of Defense certifications include Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II and Telecommunitor II along with a number of others. In all, I have accumulated over 4,000 hours of formal training. 

 

Military Service includes Panama Canal Zone, Operation’s Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Bright Star, Noble Eagle, and Enduring Freedom.  Some of the awards received over the years include: The Missouri Conspicuous Service Medal, Two Missouri Commendations, The US Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Force Achievement Medal, and numerous letters of Appreciation. 

 

Recently retired from the Government Service and have been placed in an inactive status.

 

I have been married to Judith Medley for 35 years who is originally from St. Louis.  Judith works as a Family and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for Missouri Highlands Health Care at the Annapolis Family Clinic and Parkland Hospital in Farmington, MO.

 

We have two children, Jeremy Medley a graduate of St. Louis University and Kalyn Medley a Pharmacy Technician in St. Louis, MO and a photographer.
