The Iron County Emergency Management Agency is a volunteer organization who focuses on the preparedness, response, and recovery of disasters and critical incidents within the county.  The agency cooperates with local, state, and federal agencies, as wells as private entities, in order to make the county a safer place to live and visit.   The agency has a variety of equipment at its disposal.  This equipment includes a mobile water purification system, three equipment trailers containing emergency shelter equipment, a mobile command center, and two mobile generators. 

 Mobile Command Center (Unit 7981)

The Mobile Command Center can be deployed to any site to assist local agencies with the management of an event.  It serves as a mobile office for the incident commander and establishes reliable communications to the first responders at the scene.

Over the past several years, the mobile command center has responded to numerous fairs and festivals, the “East End Wildfire”, lost hikers on Taum Sauk Mountain, a lost child on Minimum Road, flooding in Annapolis, and the loss of telephone service in Southern Iron County.

The command center is equipped with the following radio equipment:

- Two 110 watt conventional radios

- Missouri Statewide Interoperability Network radio (MOSWIN)

- Ham Radio

- Citizens Band Radio (CB)

- Weather Radio

- Seven hand-held conventional radios.

-Cellular telephone signal booster.

Baldor Generator / Light Plant (unit 7984)

In 2011 the Emergency Management Team received a grant for a 60kw diesel generator and light plant from the Regional Homeland Oversight Committee (RHSOC).  With the cooperation of the Arcadia Valley School District and a grant from the Edgar Foundation, the generator is now compatible with the Middle School Gymnasium and Cafeteria.  The school has been designated as an emergency shelter for the community. 

Winpower Generator (unit 7985)

Manufactured in 1954, this 15kw gas generator was previously used as the back-up generator for the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and Jail.  After it was replaced several years ago, the Arcadia Valley Career-Tech School returned it to running condition, mounted it on a military surplus trailer, and painted it.
